STIMULUS GRANT 2023

HAJAR AL KHEDER

In 2021 Digital Cinema Rental Camalot and The Netherlands Society of Cinematographers (NSC) launched the Stimulus Grant. This year (2024) Vocas joined us to support this grant. It is a yearly recurring tuition grant to stimulate diversity and inclusion in the film industry. The grant consists of one year’s tuition fee for two students at a Dutch or Belgian college program in cinematography.

An inclusive study or work environment should be open to every talent, regardless of gender, background, or socio-economic status. However, the Dutch film sector currently struggles with an unbalanced representation of society, which can and should change. With this vision in mind, in May 2021, NSC established a special committee aimed at stimulating diversity within the field. The committee, composed of cinematographers Aziz Al-Dilaimi, Josje van Erkel and Judith Boeschoten, addresses various issues, including ways to provide the new generation of filmmakers with the knowledge, experience, and guidance they need.

With the support of NSC sponsors Camalot and Vocas, this stimulation has been made possible through the annual scholarships. (Prospective) students of camera-related programs can apply for the Stimulus Grant through NSC. Additionally, educators can also nominate talents. Eligible students are those for whom their background and socio-economic situation present a barrier to professional development as a cinematographer.
